A place that I used to work at was experiencing a high incidence of tape
I/O errors. About 1 tape in 10 would have errors for no discernible reason.
(tape was clean, sometimes brand new).  Finally we started tagging the tapes
with a red sticker when it had this problem.  After a while it became apperent
that all the tapes were stored on the bottom rung of the tape racks. It seems
that the night cleaning crew would come in once a week and polish the floors 
with their power waxing machines...
