Whether or not inheritance follows the female line is irrelevant to whether
the Hopi are matriarchal.  The relevant factor is who holds the decision
making power.

I know little about the Hopi, but in the Iroquois League, inheritance was
through the female line ("matrilineal").  However, it was not a matriarchy --
men were the decision makers, although they were elected by WOMEN.
