Discussion of this topic seems to have tapered off, but I want
to add a little item to it.  A lawyer I know specializes in
mediation, especially in domestic law.  (That's approximate
lawyerese for divorces.)  She says that the male disputants are
generally startled at the idea that the situation need not be
treated as "win/lose", but that once the idea sinks in they are
often willing to put aside the win/lose attitude.
