The 68010 to 68020 comparison is fair, because of the instruction set similarity/upward compatibility. Among machines of different kinds, however, it may not be fair; one instruction may be 'increment the program counter by one', whereas another may be 'divide by '. The various benchmarks came to equalize the criteria, but with the implicit assumption that 'you get what you see'... The Cray computers don't do exceptionally for example because the pipelining of operations is not used!!!
