Bind Control-^ to gnu-emacs's quoted-insert command and Control-\ to forward-search. On vt100's Control-^ is typed as Control-BackQuote, which "sounds" like you're quoting the character. Works fine once you get used to it, OR, if you're like me, in which case you learned it that way! P.S. Gosh, it sure is scary when it says "this message will be posted to hundreds of machines ..."
