Engineering Computer Lab Lines: 22 The way I originally heard it from DEC-20 hacks was: ^A far left on keyboard, just as beginning of line is at the far left end of the keyboard (again, ^B taken) ^E end of line ^V looks like a down arrow ^Z ctrl-Z was originally the C-M- prefix, and I have made it be so for my environment. ^Z was chosen because it is near where the META key is on keyboards with META keys.
