Several of our local BBS have been using Hayes and USR 2400 baud modems
(they are 6 user BBS each, so the sample is somewhat valid). They are now
buying USR for the following reasons: (a) cheaper, (b) Hayes compatible
(believe it or not, the 2400 baud Hayes produces some status messages not
in the 1200 Hayes, which blow some programs out of the water), (c)
slightly higher noise rejection (this is very hard to measure and may or
may not be valid).
