Summary: Please bear with me question on termcap

I can't get vi to work w/ my ST no matter what, I tried installing
the 520ST termcap (which seemed to work w/ tset). But VI still goes crazy
. symptoms: tilde(~) in upper left, and everything I type shows up in
lower right.
any ideas
