The machines were to be the successors to the PET/SUPER PET/8032 series. They never made it into full production, and the associated floppy drives, and the 8088/MSDOS adapter board were never released. About 2 to 3 years ago, the remaining units were surplused. Reasonably complete documentation was turned over to a users group in the Midwest, so I would give them a try. Unfortunatly, none of the people who worked on the machine are still at Commodore.
