Dept, U of Maryland, College Park, MD Lines: 14 My Kaypro has just developed a really annoying problem: characters entered from the keyboard are intermittently altered when they are transmitted elsewhere. I'm not sure whether they appear within the machine, or whether the USR Password I'm using is generating them on the way out. A preliminary investigation shows that in almost every case the change consists of one bit being erroneously '1'. The error seems to be on the order of about 1 per 40-140 characters; it's hard to tell with any precision because some characters are affected more than others, apparently depending upon the number of 'vulnerable' bits. Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Any suggestions as to where to attempt to fix it? C. Wingate
