I think I remember reading somewhere that it was possible to make the imagewriter print in both directions in "faster" mode, or whatever the middle of the three quality settings is called. It had something to do with option or cmd key clicks on the buttons or the OK box. I have experimented a little and can't make it happen. Has anyone been successful at this? If so, what driver are you using? Currently, my imagewriter wastes half of its time moving across the page without printing anything. I'm not sure why the driver was written this way, since I seem to remember that bidirectional printing is used in high quality mode. One guess is that the slight misalignment of dots caused by printing in both directions looks bad in "medium" quality mode, bbut is ok for high quality mode, were characters are filled in more. Just a guess.
