]....  The readnews and notes people always
]seem to prevail on this issue, though.

What's notes got to do with it?  Notesfiles has can't deal with anything
lower than the article level, either.  I certainly appreciate the lower
transmission overhead digests afford, but if I could do the equivalent
of "unshar" locally, I think I would.
