Looking in, he noticed that there was a tray of rings on the counter and apparently no one about. There were three things he could have done :- He could have carried on and ignored the situation. He could have walked in, pocketed the rings, and walked out again. He could have gone in, left a note on the tray saying "I might just take these rings next time", and walked out. The man took the third option. The jeweller, on discovering the note, got really upset. "How dare this man just walk into my shop and do what he likes! He's a criminal!" But he took more care of his shop thereafter.
