Richard O'Keefe posted a large library of string functions to
net.sources about two years ago, I think.  It contains nearly every
string function I've ever heard of; it's coded and documented very
well; it has VAX assembler versions of many routines; and all the
functions I've used work.  If there's sufficient interest I'll post it
to the net.  (To mod.sources, of course...)
