After seeing the "herps" program for turning the Hershey fonts into PostScript fonts, I feel inspired to try doing the same for vfonts; this would have to generate the .afm font metric file as well, then it could be used with ditroff (there is little or no chance of doing it for use with troff because there are too many wired-in assumptions...).
