When using the character \(aa (acute accent) I notice it puts the accent in
the correct position for a lower case character.  If I try to put such
an accent over an upper case character it gets mixed in with the character
itself.  I presume the same problem will occur with grave accents and umlauts.

Does anyone know of a method which can put these marks on upper case 
characters?
