I can't read net.wobegon due to access restrictions at this machine,
though I may be able to post to it -- if you read this, then I could! :-)
Anyway, just thought I'd throw out my $.02 on the TV show of the 26 April PHC...

Considering that this is probably the first introduction to PHC for
millions of people, I think it was a disappointment. The music was
fine, and it was certainly interesting to SEE the people we have heard
for so long (ever noticed how few people look like you think they should
from their voices? :-); however, it was nowhere near as humorous as many
of the shows in the past have been. There should have been more of the
old-standby fake ads (Minnesota Language Systems, Fearmonger's Shop, etc.)
The "News" was hardly humorous at all. There should have been more of the
"skit" sort of thing that used to be more common on PHC.

Maybe, for the first TV airing, they should have done a "best of" type
show, and have videotaped a bunch of PHCs, and edited together the
funniest segments, giving a result with a higher humor-to-music ratio?
Then, again, maybe that is just my personal prejudice as to what I like
best on PHC; I had a subtle impression that they might have been
consciously trying to keep this show low-key, maybe so as to not give a
false image to the first-time viewers/listeners. After all, if you
watched a specially-tailored and extremely funny show, and thereafter
tuned into PHC on the radio, expecting each week to get a
split-your-gut-laughing riot, you would be very disappointed, since the
show just isn't like that. So maybe this was designed deliberately not to
raise false hopes, and increase the radio audience for a brief flash,
but end up leaving a residual ash of disaffected former listeners.
(Are there any metaphors I haven't mixed yet? :-)
