Lines: 28 Approved: laser-lovers@washington.arpa Joel, A friend of mine tells me that the Sun LaserWriter is functionally equivalent to an Apple LaserWriter, in that both are Canon engines running PostScript. The difference is that the Sun version connects through a slow (compared to an Appletalk or Ethernet connection) SIO port on the Sun. [[Editor's note: My understanding is that the two LaserWriters are the same machine and that if you peel off the Sun logo you'll find an apple. the distinction is that the Sun uses the RS-232 connection and the Apple the AppleTalk, both of which are on the machine. --Rick ]] Regarding the Sun-Appletalk link, I assume you're already familiar with the existing Seagate/Kinetics products or that, by this time, somebody else has let you on to them. We're trying to get TeX/LaTeX to work with filters over our Sun Ethernet to pass MacDraw files converted to impress format for our Imagen 8/300. So far no luck, but I'd be intersted in any thing you hear that might help us. [[Editor's note: Such a filter for the Imagen machine would certainly be of interest to many. --Rick]] Hope this helps.
