i have a small but non-trivial and would appreciate some help from people who
have a similar configuration who are more knowledgable than myself.

the configuration is as follows:


	nscvax			noddy			einode
	(vax-11/780)		(microvax-ii)		(sun-2)
	vms 4.1			ultrix 1.2		sunos (4.2bsd) 2.0

the vms machine has an x.25 connection to the outside world
it can talk decnet to noddy
the ultrix machine can talk decnet to the vms machine and tcp/ip to the
sun
the sun can talk tcp/ip to the utrix machine

has anyone done any or all of the following?:

1. written anything to allow the ultrix machine to communicate over x.25
   using the vms machine as a gateway?

2. written anything so that the ultrix machine can access the tape drives
   on the vms machine?

3. written anything to allow the sun to talk to the vms machine using the
   ultrix machine as a gateway. it says in the ultrix and decnet/ultrix
   spd that gatewaying is possible, but lord knows i can't find anything
   on it and am pretty sure that you cannot.

what i really need are example programs and installation details that
illustrate the steps needed to build decnet servers both under vms and
ultrix. all the decumentation assumes that you know what is going on
before you can find out what is going on. a real chicken and egg situation.

even if nobody has done anything like i'm suggesting but would be willing
to answer the occasional question about related matters, i would be eager
to hear from them
