I originally looked at the Fostex-80 and the Carvin 1688, but I wanted to have SMPTE and with the Fostex 4050 , the entire set-up would run well over $6k. Recently I visited Sam Ash in NYC and the salesman showed me the Tascam STUDIO-8. It has SMPTE and uses a 7" reel (set up in a cassette type construction). It seems perfect. I want to know if anyone out there has any experience with it (good and bad points) and would I be better off with my original choice. Thanks, G.C DAVIDSON mtx5d!gcd
