Summary: 

First of all, a very nice guy from Texas called me with what has to
be the correct answer for "why the hell did the compiler say 'bad arg temp'?"
Mail to me if you want to know; if there's enough interest I'll post.

And I third it; why else did I fill my recently-written compiler (pidc) with
messages of the form "Compiler error -- contact pidc support personnel."

Unfortunately, I *am* the "pidc support personnel".... :-(  ;-)
