The versions of Smalltalk for the IBM-PC are Methods by Digitalk and Smalltalk-80 version 2 by Softsmarts in Woodside, California. Methods is a modified subset of Smalltalk with a character oriented windowing interface. It runs on the PC/XT with fairly reasonable performance. Softsmarts Smalltalk is a genuine implementation of the full Xerox Smalltalk-80 release using bit-map graphics for the PC/AT. Digitalk advertises in Byte and Softsmarts in CACM. Other members of the net will likely be able to provide more details. I believe someone posted brief performance evaluations of these a couple months ago. There is also a good implementation of ST version 1 (with extensions) for the Apple Macintosh from Apple Computer. Contact me if you need more information. (Another more obscure ST subset for the PC is/was Asolv Smalltalk by Christopher Maicie.) Bruce D.
