  My two cents worth in the great "ROM or PROM or EEPROM or RAM" debate:
keep the WCS like it is, but add an external connector (mini-phone jack
or something like that) for battery back-up for the WCS RAM.  That way,
you can, if you want to spend the bucks, get as good as ROM without ROM's
inherent problems...
