Apple *OFFICIALLY* discourages the use of System-3.1 (that's been printed in many places) - and I'd bet you can't find a single Apple-employee that would use System-3.1 himself. Finder 5.3 and System 3.2 prereleases seem to be faster and pretty reliable with my working-set of programs (no Laserwriter, no AppleTalk, no SCSI)
