Using my startup screen causes severe problems it seems. Here's what I do: 1) boot machine with a StartupScreen file in the boot volume (system folder). 2) Finder 5.3 acts normal 3) launch Word, no menus appear other than the Apple 4) quit Word (using ^q, Finder either crashes or gets funny horizontal white stripes. This always happens when my StartupScreen is used.
