Although the address was "valid" in some sense, it did not conform to the standard and several connecting sites (notably "seismo") had a field day with addresses that looked like site1!site2!...!user@hao Seismo tacked on .ARPA to that (since it lacks a domain but does not look like a regular UUCP address), resulting in a bogus address. It started a positive feedback loop between hplabs and seismo that resulted in the same 5 messages bouncing back and forth via hao. It would have been funny if it weren't such a pain in the &*#*! to work on sendmail.cf files and such an expensive problem. My apologies to anyone whose mail may have been lost. I *think* the problem is fixed now. I'm sure some friendly types out there will let me know if it isn't! :-) --Greg
