Does it support > PIC on the lj or lj+? I think it should be noted that pic works independently of the output device. I recently used pic (with my bug fixes, etc.) to make diagrams on an AppleWriter. Anything that fully supports troff should be usable with pic. Note that some laser printers (e.g., first model of H-P LJ) have very limited font sets.
