Has anyone successfully used the FAB (preferably in BASIC) to find out
file information (such as Organization and Record Type among other things)?

I am writing a VMS utility and I need to be able to open ANY kind of file,
read blocks AND write blocks back (preferably without rewriting the entire
file).

Any help/suggestions out there??
