No very detailed specification is put upon candidates. We are looking for someone with a fairly down-to-earth approach who nevertheless has a proper grasp of theory, who will extend or complement the present range of interests. People in the Lab active in the area include Boguraev, Clocksin, Gordon, Sparck-Jones, and Pulman. The Lab is also active in functional programming, logic, and verification.
