There are lots of conflicts in the two-character names in termcap. From the 4.2 manual: "The first name is always 2 characters long and is used in older version 6 systems which store the terminal type in a 16 bit word in a systemwide data base." While it doesn't really say so, it implies that the two-character names aren't really intended to be used any more, and this was the intent of the implementors. Xterm users should use the name "xterms", Televideo users should use "912b" or "912c" as appropriate. If you're really on a V6 system, then trim termcap down to reference those terminals that you really have and be sure that the two-character names are unique. Along the same line, there are sometimes two-character names that *aren't* first - the name "dw" appears in the Decwriter entry. This causes confusion with the "other" dw, which is a vt52. -- Ed Gould mt Xinu, 2560 Ninth St., Berkeley, CA 94710 USA {ucbvax, decvax}!mtxinu!ed +1 415 644 0146 "A man of quality is not threatened by a woman of equality."
