i tend to avoid 17 when possible - during the week it is the primary
route for the gravel trucks coming into the bay area. on nice summer
weekends it seems to turn into a 15 mile long parking lot going to
santa cruz. the highway patrol is using radar on the road now, if you 
use it keep your speed down.
it just seems there are better ways to get from here to there. i'll
usually use 84 to highway 1 - and then down 1 to santa cruz and points
south. 

anyone out there going to the bmw rally at laguna seca? i was thinking
about riding down for a day of poking around.
