From San Francisco Chronicle (7/30/86) without permission:

		A law requiring motorcyclists to
	wear helmets went into effect in Italy
	last week.  According to the New York
	Times, police have found citizens
	surprisingly cooperative;  few citations
	have been issued.

		One reason may be the high
	publicity given to the first heart
	transplants in Italy, which were carried
	out recently.  Of the first eight heart
	donors, six had been killed in
	motorcycle accidents.
