Message-ID: <6937@utzoo.UUCP> Date: Tue, 15-Jul-86 22:56:34 EDT Article-I.D.: utzoo.6937 Posted: Tue Jul 15 22:56:34 1986 Date-Received: Tue, 15-Jul-86 22:56:34 EDT Organization: U of Toronto Zoology Lines: 24 I was wondering if there had been any discussion about single files spanning multiple devices and possible solutions to the problem. I have been trying to address the problem in a way that is (relatively) portable (ie: no kernel mods to speak of) and was wondering if anyone had pointers/suggestions about this. It seems to me that Loadable Device Drivers presents one class of solution (ie: create a virtual disk driiver which pages in and out disk drives), but I am still going to reach the maximum file size eventually. (we're talking *big* files here!) Any other solutions using streams/sockets? nfs? rfs? Please mail replies to utzoo!yetti!lethe!davidh. David Haynes P.S. The initial work will be under Ultrix 1.2 (BSD4.2) but I would like a portable solution if possible. -- Jerry J. Deroo {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!jerry
