explain your workload.  benchmarking in a notoriously difficult process
and numbers are meaningful only in context.  you do not give context.

this dates you.  for quite a while now, high priority messages
automatically clear (and preserve the former contents of) your screen
no matter what you are doing to display the message.  when you clear
the screen, the old contents is restored.  it is not a screen manager
but it's a lot better than write, not that anyone in their right mind
would use write except on a dumb terminal.

you are comparing apples and oranges.  how many MIPS per user are
available during each time-slice?  how many effective MIPS are
available?  i can format a 2,000 line document in 5 seconds.  do that
on your micro.  they just can't be compared on the same terms.
