FORTH is a lot of fun for music programming.  Build a phrase, make
copies of it, transpose it, hear it immediately.  I've written
some code for PC/FORTH on the IBM PC, with a Roland MPU-401 MIDI
interface, which allows you to record, modify, generate, and play
back sequences.  Anyone who sends me a valid network address can
get the source.

Especially welcome would be anyone who could come up with a version
of the code that would run under a public domain FORTH 83, so that
more people could use it.
