But Atari could help ST users greatly by putting the important stuff like text, disk, memory editors etc. on a few disks and including copies of those disks with new STs. Alternatively, Atari could supply dealers with a few disks so new purchasers could copy them. Some ambitious dealers already do this without help from Atari. Atari can simply state that they are not responsible for any problems caused by the PD stuff. Judging from what I read on the net, particularly the notes on the developer's kit, I would guess that few people would hold Atari responsible anyway. The following, I believe, should be included with every ST: 1. Emacs or equivalent 2. Disk monitor (e.g. JOSHUA or Eli's SECED) 3. Memory editor (e.g. JOSHUA) 4. KERMIT and XMODEM (even if not built into an emulator) 5. EZSQUEEZE (Huffman scheme) 6. STPACK/STUNPACK (for transmitting lots of files) 7. XLISP 1.7 (available on the Atari BBS) + docs 8. FORTH(MACS?) 9. PD assembler 10. PD disassembler (one is being written by the president of our STUG) 11. UUENCODE/UUDECODE 12. File comparison utility 13. 410K/820K formatter (I'm asking for trouble now) 14. PICSWITCH6 (picture viewer - most formats handled) plus a couple more I can't think of off hand.
