Ideally, this kind of zooming should be parametrized by the number of menu item flashes the user has selected in the control panel. I see this as a sort of 'experience' or perhaps more 'hurry' parameter, where a low setting means the user is a serious person who knows the kicking of the whip (Dutch saying), and doesn't need as much visual feedback as the casual user.
