To retrieve files from you have to be logged on an ARPAnet host, from which you can issue an ftp. ( Ftp is the user interface to the ARPANET standard file transfer protocol. The program allows a user to transfer files to and from a remote network site.) An alternative is to access the MACSERVE server at BITNIC via VM - just type "tell macserve at bitnic dir" and you will get a directory of the available files. Alas, MACSERVE is not updated too frequently... Perhaps i may add a question here: a friend of mine has tried to ftp from MITLNS - the transfer failed with an 'unexpected end of data' after about 3 minutes - any hints? ciao paolo
