We use an Alloy FT-60 where I work. It plugs into the 37- pin connector in the back of the PC or XT. Since ATs don't have this connector, a board is available for this. The FT-60 lists for about $1000 but I think you can now get it for about $800. Call Alloy in Framingham, Mass for dealers or read Byte Magazine. The machine uses 3M DC-600A 60 MB cartridges which use 1/4-inch tape. Tha machine works well and reliably. You can backup and restore the whole disk or file by file. It keeps a directory at the beginning of the tape so access to files is fairly quick. I have found that the overhead to run any kind of backup is static regardless of how many files are backed up so it pays for us to do full backups rather than incremental backups. This makes restoral easier, should it be necessary. A full (10 MB) backup takes about 25 minutes and to back up 3 files takes almost that much time, so why not do the whole thing each time. -- Tom Reingold UUCP: seismo| philabs| phri| -> cmcl2!rna!rocky2!reintom harvard| ihnp4| ARPANET: reintom@rockefeller.arpa BITNET: REINTOM@ROCKVAX
