I would like to do the following in TeX but cannot figure out how.

I have clumps of text that must be together on the same page.  I
do not know how to tell TeX not to do a page break within the text.
Suggestions?
I tried putting \filbreak before and after the text but that 
sometimes left too much white space after the text.
