Perhaps my brain is hemorrhaging. But I've discovered the most amazing phenomenon. The orange binders distributed with 4.4 are *BIGGER* than they used to be! Let me explain. My shelf space is fixed and limited. Those pumpkin books take a *LOT* of space, and so I've been acutely aware of the size limitations of my shelf space for a long long time. Today I was looking at something in one of the 4.4 binders, and absently went to place it on my shelf (it still belongs in the box until after the upgrade). It would not fit! Closer inspection reveals the following: Shelf height 11 5/8" VAX VMS 4.2 binder height 11 9/16" VAX VMS 4.4 binder height 11 11/16" I'll be the 1st to admit that is pretty close, and that good planning should have allowed for s/w expansion, but how could I have anticipated THIS? Is this a truly Canadian phenomenon, or does it affect all of GIA? Or is it a truly global DIGITAL corporate ploy to sell more DECshelves *tm*. Or did I quaff a few too many at lunch? Any and all suggestions/remarks/cures will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Anyone want to buy/sell/swap binders in California? Could be *THE* event of the symposium!
