There was advertised in this news group a Database Derby to be held in San Francisco in the week of August 24, 1986. The derby was to compare data base management products currently developed for UN*X systems, and several seminars were also to be presented during the week. This was to culminate in a contest where several participating vendors would receive a problem description and then set to work solving it using hardware provided. I think the concept of an independent comparison is valid, and I wonder if this event is worth attending. Has anyone reading this checked into it ? The price for individuals was listed at $ 695 per person, which seemed expensive. Also, have any of the vendors which peruse this news group investigated this Database Derby ? Is it real, or... ? As vendor, what was your decision for participating [or not] ? Please respond publicly here if you wish. If you respond privately, your response will be kept confidential. I wish to thank Olivetti for providing me access to this network. I am a consultant working under contract with Olivetti, and not associated with Olivetti in any other way.
