Yes, that's right. It's important to get users in the habit of fully qualifying their names to eliminate confusion. We added a machine called 'VENUS.UMD.EDU', with the obvious nicname 'VENUS'. Person send mail to 'VENUS'. Mail trys to get delivered to ISI-VENUS.ARPA or something. Person is real confused why this is. Don't forget, these domain style names are a TRANSPORT issue, not a user interface one. You can present the user with any interface he desires. If you don't like the one he sees now, write your own. A lot of people have worked hard to get this domain stuff usable. I personally like being able to lookup names of new hosts that aren't in the NIC host table yet. -- Louis A.
