It is *much* easier for a person to pick up a phone, tap the hook two or three times and say "Get me Mary Jones at the Algonquin Hotel." Well, then there were phone numbers. No problem. 5 numbers. Then 7. But, long distance?! No problem... "Hello, long distance? Get me Cleveland. Clevland? I need to speak to Mary Jones at the Rocky River Motel." But... What ho! Direct Dialing! You mean I have to remember 10 numbers for someone? So it goes. What do people who compain about having to type "user@seismo.css.gov" instead of "user@seismo" do when they address a letter for USPS delivery? You have to specify street *and* street number! City *and* state! -- Fred @ DEC Ultrix Applications Center INET: avolio@decuac.DEC.COM * Fight the Fight * UUCP: {decvax, seismo, cbosgd}!decuac!avolio * Rescue the Unborn *
