Actually pathalias can be made to run on a 16-bit machine fairly easily, it's just that you will only be able to process a fairly small subset of the mod.map database. Here are some alternatives: 1) Talk some bigger site, perhaps at a uucp neighbor to generate a pathalias database relative to your site. It is quite easy to do. Alternativly, you can take their database, and manually edit it so that you go route through their site except where you care to optimize. 2) Find a reasonably local site that does auto-routing and route your mail through there. Some will reroute, whether you like it or not, and some only if your address is incomplete. 3) Manually generate a pathalias style database, or do it incrementally using whatever size chunck of database you can cram through pathalias on you configuration. Note that the generated paths do not really have to be optimal, just good enough that your mail stands a reasonable chance of getting through. Also, the database really doesn't have to be updated all that often. Every six months is probably fine for a leaf site or replying to news postings, assuming that you manually update the database when your mail bounces. ------ There's a certain price associated with taking full advantage of the net and the available software. It's painful that it's so high, and amazing that it's so low... them unless -- George Robbins - now working for, uucp: {ihnp4|seismo|caip}!cbmvax!grr but no way officially representing arpa: cbmvax!grr@seismo.css.GOV Commodore, Engineering Department fone: 215-431-9255 (only by moonlite)
