OS9 royalties are based on how much money an OEM pays up front. The more you pay up front, the less each copy costs you. Tandy can afford to put out megabucks for the OS and langauges and then sell them cheaply. Smaller companies just don't have the resources to do that (it would probably be a bad idea even if they could, since I don't think 100,000 people would buy OS9/68K even at $100 a copy). -- John P.
