I have had some unexpected trouble with uucp on my system.  The following
relates my LOGFILE during some expensive and fruitless transactions.  I
should add that the session finally did complete, the file was transferred.
  I have used THE STORE! in the past without any of this trouble.

etc.  There's more, but you get the point.

The following informative error messages greeted me in /usr/spool/uucp/ERRLOG:

ASSERT ERROR (uucico)  pid: 2451  (8/16-1:13:43) PKXSTART ret  (0)
ASSERT ERROR (uucico)  pid: 2506  (8/16-3:08:49) PKXSTART ret  (0)
ASSERT ERROR (uucico)  pid: 2583  (8/16-5:04:34) PKXSTART ret  (0)

Questions: What was the problem?  What is PKXSTART?  How can I avoid
expensive but pointless 40 minute phone calls to New Jersey?
