When one of the Apple people was speaking here, he said something to the
effect that at one time the Mac was going to have stereo sound; however,
when they switched from the 5.25" Twiggy drives to the 3.5" Sony drives,
they needed a speed control -- hence the loss of the second channel.  I'd
be surprised to see a stereo MacPlus anytime soon -- the current MacPlus
does have the ability to use the old 400K external drives, and Apple would
have to take that away to get the second channel.  Of course, once the open
Mac appears, a number of multi-channel music cards may come out (remember
all the ones that appeared for the Apple ][?)
