I have a PCjr with a Racore expansion chassis. After a while, I started experiencing problems with the Racore disk drive. The excess heat caused the drive belt to slip on its pulley. I also noticed that disks out of both disk drives were quite warm when I took them out. This is not good for them. Then again, my PCjr sits in an enclosed space which provides poor ventilation. With an unexpanded PCjr, sitting in an unobstructed area, this should not be a problem. By the way, do NOT just disconnect the fan, REMOVE it. To do this, remove the disk drive by unsnapping the disk drive mounts from the bottom of the PCjr's case, unscrew the fan from the back, and reinstall the disk drive. If you leave an unoperating fan in place, it will block airflow.
