Does anyone out there have a set of nroff/troff/ditroff macros and/or 
C programs that handle symbolic (or labeled) cross references in
textual material? It is important to me that these macros or programs
handle both forward and backward references for an arbitrary amount of
text; this text might include variables such as section, chapter, and
page numbers.
